Gorgeous Pasadena home with massive Batchelder fireplace lists for $2.3M

It’s a knockout

In the lower Arroyo Seco, nestled behind mature trees and fronted by a deep lawn lined at the sidewalk with boulders, you’ll find this two-story English Tudor Revival.

The architect was Pasadena-based Reginald D. Johnson, who also designed the landmark garden-style Village Green condominium complex in Baldwin Hills.

The five-bedroom residence was built in 1915 during the Arts and Crafts period, which heavily influenced the architecture of many Pasadena homes. One of the movement’s big players in LA was tile maker Ernest Batchelder, and his work is prominently displayed here. There are not one—but two—Batchelder fireplaces, including one in the living room that stretches from the floor to just below the ceiling. (Batchelder and his wife lived about a quarter-mile down the road).

This home has been owned by the same family for more than 50 years, the listing says, and they’ve gloriously refrained from painting over all of the handsome wood moldings. Other notable features include an abundance of windows, a sun room, and a pool.

The property measures .64 acres and is listed for $2.35 million.
