Construction broke ground Thursday on a huge new development in Porter Ranch that will include both housing and retail.
Called The Vineyards, the $150 million project will include 266 luxury apartments, along with a Whole Foods and Kaiser Permanente medical building. According to project developers Shappell Properties and Liberty Building Company, the 345,000-square-foot development will also include a hotel, "luxury movie theater," and a multitude of shopping and dining options.
The developers are also touting green features of the complex, such as rainwater capture and recycled water irrigation systems, solar panels, and electric car chargers.
Fashioned in the (bland) style of other higher end outdoor shopping and residential developments, the project will be built around a central green space and community center for special events.
Located at the corner of Rinaldi Street and Porter Ranch Drive, the project is set to be completed in two phases. The first, which will include the retail components, is expected to be complete in 2018. The second, which will consist of the hotel and housing, should wrap up in 2020.
