The Sunset Strip House of Blues is being demolished right now

New, 8 comments

The venue closed in 2015

The Sunset Strip’s House of Blues is being torn down at this very moment. Video and photos taken yesterday show heavy machinery tearing into the corrugated metal exterior of the venue, which hosted live music for more than two decades.

It closed in August 2015, after 21 years in business, to make way for a mixed-use development. Called Sunset Time, the project will comprise two new buildings, including a hotel that will rise eight stories and hold nearly 150 rooms. The other is a five-story condo building with 45 units.

Sunset Time will also have retail and restaurant space. The project is being developed by Combined Properties and AECOM Capital and designed by EYRC Architects (formerly Ehrlich Architects).

Workers at the site told WeHoville that they expect demolition to take several weeks.

The project was originally approved in 2010. Work ramped up last year, when the developer secured approvals from West Hollywood. Urbanize LA says that a sign posted at the site projects Sunset Time will be complete in December 2019. Curbed has reached out to the developers for more information.
