Hollywood and Vine bike hub will open May 19

Hollywood will get a little more cyclist-friendly later this month as Metro unveils a new bike hub close to the busy Hollywood and Vine intersection. The Source reports that the long-awaited facility will finally open its doors on Friday, May 19.

The hub will serve as both a secure storage facility with space for 64 bikes, conveniently located steps from the Hollywood and Vine Red Line station, and a shop equipped with locks, lights, and other bike accessories. Attendants will be on hand for much of the day to assist with bike repairs and rentals.

To take advantage of the hub and its services, riders will need to register for membership—either online or in person. Metro offers three payment plans for members: seven-day passes for $5.00, 30-day passes for $12.00, and yearlong passes for $60. Each type of membership gives users round-the-clock access to the hub.

This is the second of several hubs that the agency plans to open around Los Angeles. The first, located near the El Monte bus station, opened in 2015. Other facilities are in the works for Culver City and Union Station.

Plans for the Hollywood hub have been in the works since at least 2010, when Metro’s board of directors approved the project as a solution to the so-called last mile problem faced by public transit users who don’t live within walking distance of a station.
