New renderings show off the 15-story project

Rendering of Hollywood and Wilcox housing development LA Department of City Planning

In August, we heard about plans for a large housing development proposed around the historic Attie Building on Hollywood Boulevard. Now, Urbanize LA has spotted an initial study of the project, which reveals new details and a preview of how it may look once complete.

The 15-story complex is being designed by Los Angeles-based firm GMPA Architects. It’s set to include 260 units of housing, along with 17,800 square feet of retail and restaurant space. Parking for 420 cars would be located in a five-story lot—including two underground levels.

Meanwhile, the Attie Building, built in the 1930s, would be rehabilitated and integrated into the project. The recognizable "You Are the Star" mural alongside the Art Deco building (featured prominently in La La Land) will also be preserved and restored.

The building, shown in renderings as a glassy structure with a multitude of private balconies for residents, will be equipped with both a pool deck and sky deck. Other residential amenities include a fitness center, theater, barbecue area, business center, dog run, and “library/music room.”

Construction of the project is tentatively expected to begin in March of 2019, lasting about 24 months. Under that timeline, the project would open in March of 2021.
