Back in 2015, we heard about a new residential development with street-level retail planned right next to the 101 freeway on Hollywood Boulevard. Now, architecture firm Carrier Johnson + Culture has announced that construction is underway on the project, which will bring 161 new apartments to the area.

Located at 5750 Hollywood Boulevard, the building will include a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, with a few loft-style apartments to boot. Fourteen of the units will be set aside for low-income residents.

Meanwhile, 5,700 square feet of retail space will be available at the ground level, with “shopkeeper units” immediately above. A subterranean garage will hold 271 parking spaces.

As renderings illustrate, the seven-story complex will be comprised of residential clusters connected to one another by skybridges. According to the architecture firm, the project’s design was inspired by “the iconic Hollywood themes of lights and motion,” with an alternating black and white color scheme. (Get it?)

An environmental report for the project published in 2015 provides a long list of amenities for residents, including a rooftop terrace, clubhouse, media room, pool and spa, conference center, game room, and fitness center.
