Construction of the future NFL stadium is already heating up Inglewood’s commercial real estate market, now comes news that a Los Angeles-based developer has purchased 18 acres in Inglewood near the future home of the Rams and Chargers and is reviving plans to build a gated residential community.
Harridge Development Group says it will build 228 detached condos on the site at 333 North Prairie Avenue, just south of Florence Avenue.
The deal was announced Tuesday by broker The Hoffman Company, which said the new tract of homes, to be called Grace Park, would be move-in read by the time the stadium is scheduled to open in 2019.
The seller, developers Shopoff Group, had already won approval to build 310 townhomes on the site. Harridge Development Group said it was tweaking those plans to accommodate fewer units.
It also said the new homes would appeal to, “Los Angeles County’s highly educated tech workers,” as “Google, Facebook, Snapchat and Uber are among the many tech-oriented companies nearby.”
We’ll have to wait to see how longtime Inglewood residents react to this latest harbinger of gentrification. (Over in Venice Beach, Snap’s growth has ticked off locals and triggered protests.)
These aren’t the only hew homes in the works for the area around the Inglewood stadium. Under construction now are 3,000 units of stadium-adjacent housing that will be part of a huge mixed-use complex. That project also includes a luxury hotel, shops, and a remodeled Hollywood Park Casino.
