A new seven-story hotel could soon be popping up on a very active block in South Park. According to plans filed with the city Thursday, the hotel would include 75 guest rooms and a restaurant.
Set to rise at 1219 South Hope Street, the development would add on to an existing two-story commercial building that already stands at the project site. Permit records show the structure was remodeled with new steel framing last year.
The hotel is far from the only new development planned in the area. Already rising right next door is a massive two tower mixed use project being developed by Vancouver-based Onni Group. Just north of that project, Fulton Street Ventures is planning a 28-story high rise with 200 condos.
Meanwhile, across the street from the hotel, developer Hollywood International Regional Center is planning a makeover of the historic Morrison Hotel (where The Doors shot one of their most famous album covers).
City officials have recently been trying to entice developers to construct hotel projects convenient to LA Live and the convention center—even offering tax incentives to builders willing to do so. It’s not clear whether the developer of this project, less than three blocks from the convention center, plans to request incentives from the city.
