Almost one year ago, Silver Lake was introduced to 365 by Whole Foods, the stripped down grocery store brand aimed at cost-conscious millennials. Things must be good in the organic produce and La Croix business, because 365 by Whole Foods is about to expand into Santa Monica.
By this summer, a former office park at the corner of Pico and Cloverfield will be the site of LA’s second 365 by Whole Foods location, reports Santa Monica Next.
Whole Foods Senior Marketing Director Kate Neu tells Santa Monica Next the grocery store is eager to open a new location, “in the incredibly vibrant, active and health-minded Santa Monica community.”
365 by Whole Foods’s website says two additional stores are planned for LA, one in Long Beach and the other in the North Hollywood Arts district.
In 2012, plans were in the works to construct a 150-unit apartment building on the Santa Monica site (some of the units would have been for low-income renters).
But neighbors put the kibosh on the project over gentrification concerns, and now several years later, the youth branded arm of Whole Foods is moving in.
