Photographer Jeffery Milstein can turn any aerial view into a work of art. His images take on an architectural quality, with a focus on shapes and form so that it’s hard to decipher what you are looking at—whether it’s an airport, a cruise ship, or an industrial site.
But his images of cityscapes are the most mesmerizing. For his series of Los Angeles aerials, he took photos of the city from a helicopter, capturing well-known places and locations around the city, ranging from the Getty Museum to sprawling residential areas like Park La Brea to the tourist-infested Venice Beach.
Milstein graduated with a BA in architecture from UC Berkeley in 1968 before becoming a professional photographer. He has also shot aerial series in New York and London.
