Here’s a recently remodeled residence which appeared on the market last year billed as “Grey Gardens in Los Feliz.” We’re not sure we’d describe the 1920 home as it appeared then in quite such bleak terms, but it certainly was in need of a bit of TLC.
Less than a year after finding a buyer (for around $1.3 million), the four-bedroom house is back on the market and seems to have gotten a good deal of the attention it was looking for. The hardwood floors, crown moldings, and brick fireplace appear to have been left intact (though the latter feature has been painted white). Meanwhile, the kitchen has been completely reinvented with stainless steel appliances and a country feel (there’s a farmhouse sink).
The bathrooms have also been worked over, and a new swimming pool—complete with fountain features—has been added to the backyard.
The boxy Mediterranean-style home was designed by Marshall P. Wilkinson, who is best remembered as an architect-to-the-stars during Hollywood’s Golden Age. As the listing notes, the home’s current owners have undertaken renovations with “utmost respect to its original heritage.”
Other original features remaining in the 2,420-square-foot home include a large front porch, wide casement windows, and an impressive master stairway. Asking price is $1.989 million.
