A blend of rustic and modern

According to its listing, this shingled home in Laurel Canyon was built as a hunting lodge and speakeasy. Another bit of trivia about the 1932 residence: It used to belong to actress Melora Walters.

Measuring 2,449 square feet, the two-story home has retained some of its original features, such as beamed ceilings, a double-sided river rock fireplace, and French doors, though its kitchen, four bedrooms, and two baths have all been extensively modernized. Updates include heated floors, “professional appliances,” and new electric and A/C systems.

On a 5,678-square-foot lot with hot tub and attached two-car garage, the property is listed with an asking price of $1.449 million. Open house is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
