Los Angeles rent comparison: What $1,300 rents you right now

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. We've found five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,300.

↑ One block from Fairfax High School and a couple blocks south of Melrose Avenue, this studio apartment has a lot of vintage features (decorative fireplace, decorative ceilings) that give it a boost of charm. The apartment does not have parking or access to on-site laundry, but it does have hardwood floors, a full kitchen (fridge and stove included), built-ins, “and a small french balcony.” It rents for $1,350.

↑ This North Hollywood one-bedroom is right off the 170 Freeway and has off-street parking for tenants. The 725-square-foot apartment comes with on-site laundry, a small outdoor area, and a kitchen straight out of Ikea. Rent is $1,400.

↑ At the opposite end of the city, this 600-square-foot, one-bedroom residence sits not far from the Ports O’ Call in San Pedro. Built in 1924, the little “house” (it shares one wall with another unit) features arched windows, built-ins, and an updated bathroom. The unit has its own in-unit laundry machines and a detached, one-car garage. Rent is $1,300.

↑ Yes, this is a 300-square-foot apartment, but perhaps there’s a Marie Kondo fan out there who has pared down so far that this Glendale studio is just the right fit. Inside a recently renovated building, the apartment has subway tiles and new fixtures and includes a “Euro-style fridge” and stove. Rent is $1,350.

↑ This Westlake one-bedroom close to the Koreatown border doesn’t seem to offer parking, but it is advertised as “fully updated.” The apartment has wood and tile floors, a small but likely effective kitchen, and relatively large windows. Rent is $1,299.
