Shuttered for over a year, the storefront that once housed Sports Chalet at the FIGat7th shopping center is set to reopen this week as a Nordstrom Rack, bringing another popular retailer to the heart of Downtown LA.
The 27,000-square-foot store will open Thursday, becoming the 12th Nordstrom Rack in the Los Angeles area and the first Downtown location. Located between the Taste food court and the Gold’s Gym, the store will join tenants like Target and H&M in anchoring the Financial District complex that opened in 2012.
The store’s opening is a small part of major changes on the way to FIGat7th and the large plaza that surrounds it. Owner Brookfield Properties announced plans in June for a 64-story skyscraper immediately west of the shopping center that would bring hundreds of new condos and ground-floor commercial space to the area.
Preliminary renderings show the project would include open space and outdoor seating overlooking the shops of FIGat7th. Work on the project is expected to get underway by 2019.
The new Nordstrom Rack will open for business Thursday at 8 a.m.
