With South Park in serious danger of running out of room for new high-rise projects, it was probably only a matter of time before the mayhem spilled into the nearby Fashion District. It started with news of the massive City Market project last year, and now the Downtown neighborhood might get a 33-story residential tower to call its own.
According to plans filed with the city yesterday, the project would bring 452 residential units and 13,655 square feet of commercial space to the area. Plans also call for a total of 561 parking spaces and stalls for 528 bicycles.
As renderings show, the mostly above ground parking garage is disguised by a dark metallic cover and topped with a community pool and sitting area. The rooftop also features a deck with games and a barbecue area.
As Urbanize LA reports, the project is a collaboration between two Southern California developers: Realm Group and Urban Offerings. That team is also working on another tall tower about a mile away in City West.
Located at 222 East 7th Street, it looks like the building will be called 7th & Maple. That will put it right next to Santee Court lofts in what’s currently a large parking lot.
No timetable for the project’s completion is available at this point.
