Koreatown’s residential landscape is blossoming, but now it’s got a new hospitality venture on the horizon, too. A proposed development would bring 96 residential units and 148 hotel rooms in a new project with about 58,000 square feet of commercial space, according to documents filed with the department of city planning.
A little less than half of that commercial space would be divvied up among six restaurants (about 25,000 square feet). The developer listed on the paperwork is Western Plaza Capital Holding, LLC.
According to property records, the four parcels that comprise the project total about .85 acres along Western Avenue, starting at the southeast corner of Western and 8th Street, just two blocks south of the Pelliser Building, the lovely Art Deco building housing the Wiltern Theatre. The development would replace a parking lot and a multi-story shopping center on the site now.
This isn’t the only hotel headed to Koreatown. A few blocks away at Harvard Boulevard near 7th Street, a hotel with restaurant and retail on the ground floor could be sprouting soon.
