Hillside midcentury in Mount Washington asks $799K

Glass, brick, and plenty of beautiful hardwood

We could get right into the nitty gritty about what this three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home has to offer, but first, why not set the mood?

"It's 1962 and USC architect student Emil Dutko is creating his own Mid Century masterpiece in a rustic haven know as Mt Washington."

So begins the very dramatic listing description for this tall and somewhat boxy home. It goes on to describe how Dutko "searched for the perfect hillside to realize his vision of tree top and canyon vistas to embrace nature and bring it inside," eventually settling on this 5,205-square-foot lot where the steep terrain seems to have played a significant role in shaping the home’s stacked design.

Inside, the spacious living room features a panel of windows along the wall facing the street, along with a massive floor-to-ceiling window that takes up most of an adjoining wall. More window panels appear on the upstairs level, cleverly arranged to provide plenty of natural light while maintaining an air of privacy.

The kitchen includes a distinctive red brick floor, while the rest of the floor space is composed of elegant hardwood and, interestingly, cork.

There’s not really a yard to speak of, but the large back deck is tucked into the hillside, where vegetation peeks over a wooden fence. And, as the listing notes, the home’s location is an ideal place to experience "close to home nature for the perfect dog walk or stroller amble."

Stroller amblers should move quickly though. Redfin estimates there’s a 70 percent chance this "hot home" will sell in the next week. Asking price is $799,000.
