Blossom Plaza, Chinatown's new apartment complex, rents from $1,925

Only 39 units still available for rent

Chinatown has a big new apartment complex just steps from the Gold Line light rail. Blossom Plaza, designed by Johnson Fain, is now open and almost full, the architecture firm announced this week.

Forest City Realty Trust developed the plot of land at 900 North Broadway, converting it from a former Italian restaurant and parking lot into the five-story apartment complex with 20,000 square feet of retail and pedestrian plaza that spans 19,000 square feet.

There are 237 apartments (20 percent of which are designated affordable), a mix of studios and one- and two-bedrooms, starting at $1,925. According to Blossom's website, 39 units are still available.

The units themselves seem cozy, ranging from 585 square feet for the smallest studio to 1,005 square feet for the largest two bedroom. That's downright roomy by Manhattan standards.

Amenities include a pool, gym, gaming room, and outdoor grilling station. But its best feature is its access to public transportation. It's right next door to the Chinatown Gold Line Metro stop, and its courtyard leads right into the station. Still, this is Los Angeles, so there's ample parking. Spots are available for 449 cars, 175 of them available to non-residents.
