What is your favorite Los Angeles park?

New, 18 comments

Is it Griffith Park or your neighborhood pocket park?

Welcome to Friday Open Thread, wherein we'll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, etc. Have something you want discussed? Let us know.

This weekend’s weather is planned to be in the low 80s—a nice bit of summer mildness and great for getting out of the house. The beaches will no doubt be packed, but what about hitting up a park?

Sure, Los Angeles is at the lower end of the list when major cities’ park systems are ranked, but it’s not like we don’t have lots of very popular, well-loved parks. Griffith Park, the city’s largest at 4,282 acres, is also its most visited. While not exactly an escape from urban life, Downtown’s Grand Park is an easily accessible respite and a cool place to take a kid to frolic in a splash pad. There are also droves of smaller parks popping up throughout the city, some of them on once-blighted neighborhood lots and others so under-the-radar, they’re basically secret.

But which Los Angeles park is your favorite? We’re looking for any park in LA proper, no matter how big or how small. Let us know in the comments!
