Barnsdall Art Park to get a hip outdoor movie series

Food trucks and wine before the movies

Barnsdall Art Park in Los Feliz is already pretty high on the "cool parks" list for its wine tastings, but it's about to get even hipper. LAist reports the park, which contains Frank Lloyd Wright’s gorgeous Hollyhock House, will kick off a new, Cinefamily-curated outdoor movie series this Labor Day weekend.

In addition to its arthouse and esoteric screenings, Cinefamily often adds fun spectacles to its movie showings, like potlucks and live music and special guests.

At Barnsdall, food trucks and wine will be part of the fun, and live music might sometimes come before the films. The Sunday evening events will begin at 5:30 p.m., and movies will start at sundown on the West Lawn of the Hollyhock House. Tickets cost $25, with all the proceeds going toward the Art Park. And sorry, but no matter how much of a cinephile your eight-year-old is, the screenings are all 21 and over.

The first movie of the series, 1979’s Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, will screen September 4. (The film is described as "rife with an innate understanding of what the ultimate Bowie fan wants–and needs–from a concert film experience.") After that, there’s a showing of the French New Wave film Jules et Jim, an experimental film night, and a screening of Federico Fellini’s Satyricon, among others. The final weekend for the outdoor film experience is October 2.

The full rundown of screenings and events is here.
