The Hollywood Proper Residences, an extended-stay hotel aimed at guests needing a room for a month or more, opened June 1 in Kilroy Realty’s Columbia Square development in Hollywood. Columbia Square, formerly CBS studio space, is being redeveloped with the addition of the hotel, plus retail and office space marketed at creative-types and those in entertainment industry. The site is also home to Viacom, which has its new corporate offices there, and an outpost of NeueHouse, the pricey, members-only co-working hub.
The 200-unit, 22-story Hollywood Proper offers guests their choice of furnished or unfurnished rooms, with the former put together entirely by famed interior designer Kelly Wearstler. Promotional materials say both furnished and unfurnished units feature floor-to-ceiling windows, white-oak hardwood floors, and, "a stylish, professional kitchen."
Wearstler and her husband, developer Brad Korzen, have joined forces not just on this Proper, but on a whole series of Propers set to roll out over the next few years, one of which is headed for South Broadway in Downtown LA. The Downtown Proper hotel will take up residence in the former Case Hotel building, constructed in 1924.
The one-bedroom units in Hollywood range from about 750 to 1,050 square feet; two-bedrooms start at about 1,200 square feet and go up to about 1,400 square feet. Two-bedroom units come with "walk-in wardrobes," balconies, and private terraces, The Hollywood Reporter noted around the time of the Proper’s opening.
Rent for unfurnished suites will start at $3,400 for a one-bedroom and $5,850 for a two-bedroom. Furnished one-bedrooms rent for $10,500, while two-bedrooms start at $13,750. Furnished units are available for guests staying under a year, but those who sign on for a year or more "must do so with an unfurnished unit," a rep for the Proper tells Curbed.
For the truly deep-pocketed, there are also four penthouses, which measure between approximately 2,200 and 2,600 square feet. Two of the penthouses feature their own private pools. They start a $25,000 a month, and that’s for an unfurnished unit. If you want that turnkey experience, it will cost you at least $30,000.
