Remodeled Midcentury in Encino Wants $2.1M

There’s a door in the shower that leads outside

This midcentury modern home in Encino was constructed in 1961 and is apparently somewhat lucky to still be standing today. Realtor Margaret Arana says the owners purchased the home for $1.2 million in 2013 for from Will Smith’s brother, who at one time intended to demolish the property. They restored and remodeled the home to its sleek condition and are now looking for similarly preservation-minded buyers.

Just about every room in the house looks to have been updated with new appliances, flooring, and fixtures, but it is still filled with some distinctively midcentury design quirks. These include long corridors that meet to form an angled floor-to-ceiling window and an unexpected rotunda with a striking spherical light fixture overhead. Sliding glass doors throughout the 3,336 square-foot home allow for easy indoor-outdoor access. There’s even a door leading from the spacious double shower in the master bathroom to what appears to be a small, private courtyard.

The nearly half-acre lot is outfitted with drought-friendly landscaping and a saltwater pool. Asking price is $2.095 million. Buyers looking for a cheap teardown need not apply.
