12 Awesome Photos from Santa Monica's First Open Streets Event

New, 1 comment

COAST brought droves of people out to enjoy the car-free streets

Yesterday was Santa Monica's first-ever CicLAvia-style event that shut down the streets to cars and opened them to people on foot, on bikes, and, apparently, on stilts. The appropriately named COAST took over streets for about two miles of Main Street and Ocean Avenue, passing by the Santa Monica Pier and the brand new Colorado Esplanade.

A celebration of the Expo Line and just a cool, fun thing to do, the event had a great turn out and, interestingly, it seemed like there were a lot more walkers than there are usually at official CicLAvias. (Maybe the relatively short route length helped?) We've got 12 pictures that collectively sort of capture the open streets and the overall vibe of the event.
