Whoa: 43-Story Tower Planned for Downtown at Eighth/Fig

The Financial District site's currently a parking lot

Another DTLA parking lot bites the dust, this time at Eighth and Figueroa, right across the street from the FIGat7th shops. Urbanize LA reports that a filing last week with the city offer precious little information about the project, but what is available is big, tall news.

The proposed project would take the form of a 43-story tower on about an acre on the eastern side of the intersection of Figueroa and Eighth streets, at the edge of the Financial District. The tower would hold 436 residential units, and feature 10,000 square feet of space at the street level for shopping and restaurant uses.

The property has been owned for years by Mitsui Fudosan America, whose parent is Japanese real estate developer Mitsui Fudosan, says ULA. Back in the 1990s, there was an attempt to build a 400-room hotel on the site, but as it's currently a parking lot, that hotel plan didn't go anywhere.
