It's really happening, folks

Soccer stadium Los Angeles Football Club

All the excitement around the return of the Rams to Los Angeles and the construction of a new stadium for the team in Inglewood shouldn't overshadow the fact that they are not the only football in town if you're the kind of person who calls soccer football.

While Inglewood's stadium's been progressing, the plan to build a brand new $250-million soccer palace in Exposition Park has been moving through the process to get built And today, it crossed the threshold when the City Council gave their approval to the Los Angeles Football Club to build their proposed 22,000-seat, open-air stadium, the LAFC says.

The Gensler-designed, soccer-specific stadium, being developed by the LAFC, will bring 100,000 square feet of new restaurants, a soccer museum with it. It's expected to be ready in time for the start of the LAFC's 2018 season. The venue will rise on the grave of the Sports Arena, which is scheduled to begin demolition this summer.
