Though he's best known for his surreal, psychologically unsettling comedic output (primarily as one half of Tim and Eric), Tim Heidecker has a surprisingly sincere and normal streak too, which he's now putting on display in a new solo album, titled In Glendale. Influenced by a pantheon of singer-songwriters such as Randy Newman, Warren Zevon, and Harry Nilsson, the 10-track album offers Heidecker's unique outlook on life in LA—more specifically, in Glendale, where the Pennsylvania native now resides with his wife, daughter, and two dogs. In honor of the record's release, Curbed asked Heidecker to share a few of his favorite things about living in the Jewel City, and he obliged us with the list below.
The Americana: Yeah, it’s just a rip off of the Grove, but I can take my daughter there and kill a whole afternoon.
Skaf’s Lebanese Cuisine on N. Chevy Chase Drive: Skaf's is so great. The fried fish platter they serve only from Thursday through Sunday is the real deal.
The 2 Freeway: Folks complain about LA traffic and it really is the worst, but the 2 Freeway, which gets me in and out of Downtown, Silver Lake, Echo Park and beyond is what a highway should be.
My house: When I say I live in Glendale, people give me a blank look or a polite smile, but the secret is there are canyons and hills running up towards La Cañada and that’s where I got myself, surrounded by oak trees and grownups.
My house again, specifically the backyard. One day you may find me sunken into a patio chair, inert, vines growing up my legs.
This Sunday, May 22, Tim Heidecker will be performing songs from In Glendale backed by a 10-piece band at the Teragram Ballroom.
