1930s French Country Manor by Stiles O. Clements in Hancock Park Asking $6M

New, 4 comments

The elegant estate has been featured in Town & Country and Vanity Fair

It's always a treat to encounter a design by the masterful hand of Stiles O. Clements, architect of such landmarks as Malibu's Adamson House, Downtown's Mayan Theater, and Beverly Hills High School's famed swim-gym.

In 1939, the same year Clements produced the ahead-of-its-time swim-gym as a New Deal project, he designed this elegant French Country Revival manor in Hancock Park for art patrons Lucius and Mildred Peyton Green.

Measuring just over 5,000 square feet, the house has three private bedroom suites, two with terraces, hardwood and marble floors, multiple fireplaces, wainscoting, French doors, and updated kitchen and baths, while its half-acre grounds contain a formal parterre garden with fountain, a pool, an outdoor kitchen, a sport court, and a separate guest unit/office over a detached garage. According to its listing, "the home has been used regularly as a backdrop for celebrity magazine features in Vanity Fair and Town & Country." Last sold for $4.7 million in 2006, it's now asking $5.995 million.
