CicLAvia Comes to the Northern San Fernando Valley This Weekend

The four-mile route will run from Pacoima to Panorama City

Sunday's CicLAvia, like all CicLAvias, is not a bike race, and organizers encourage riders to slow down and explore the route. The idea is that this is an open-street festival and celebration of the local residents and businesses of the northern San Fernando Valley.

In addition to the bicycling, several events and attractions will be running throughout the route to introduce participants to the local scene—those will include a collective painting created at the "mobile mural lab" in Panorama City, a block party at Bradley Plaza, and a student art showcase in Arleta. Organizers will also be hiding "Power Up Packs" throughout the four-mile route filled with cold drinks, shirts, and gift cards. As if that wasn't enough, Machete himself, Danny Trejo, will be in attendance in Pacoima.

Drivers should take note of the street closures: Van Nuys Boulevard will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. between Roscoe Boulevard and Lehigh Avenue. There will be portions of the route where cars may cross, but the organizers are warning drivers that there will probably be delays.

This is just the second time CicLAvia organizers have chosen a route in the Valley. In 2015, they closed off portions of Ventura Boulevard and Lankershim Boulevard, and drew around 100,000 people.

Next in line for a CicLAvia event will be the southeastern LA neighborhoods of Lynwood, Watts, Huntington Park, and South Gate. That event is scheduled for May 15.
