With construction fully underway on the new Crenshaw/LAX Line, plenty of new developments are beginning to pop up close to the future route. The latest project ready to begin construction is a five-story senior housing structure called Crenshaw Villas. It’s scheduled to begin construction on Monday.

The 50-unit building will serve seniors with incomes under half of the area median, according to a project summary. Offering a mix of one and two bedroom units, the building also includes 3,500 square feet of ground floor commercial space and a single level of below-ground parking.

The project should wrap up in 2018, according to designer Urban Architecture Lab—about a year ahead of the 2019 opening of the Crenshaw/LAX Line. Residents will be conveniently situated a little over a half-mile from the Expo/Crenshaw stop, which will begin serving the new line at that point (in addition to the Expo Line, which it currently serves). Once completed, the new building, which is being developed by American Communities, LLC, will be LEED Gold certified.
