8-story ‘micro hotel’ planned next to Mama Shelter in Hollywood

Last month, we reported on a mysterious hotel project proposed for a part of Hollywood that’s not going to have any shortage of hotel rooms before long. Now, the city has released an environmental study that sheds more light on the project.

Located next door to Mama Shelter on Selma Avenue, between Wilcox and Schraeder, the project will be called the Tommie Hotel, and it will include 212 guest rooms spread across an eight-story, 95-foot-tall structure. Bar and restaurant space will be located on both the ground floor and a rooftop deck, while four levels of parking will be constructed beneath the hotel.

As Urbanize LA reports, the proposed hotel is being developed by Five Chairs, a subsidiary of Hollywood International Regional Center—the firm behind the recently completed Dream Hotel at Selma and Cahuenga.

HIRC is on a real tear in the area, with plans already in the works for a new establishment next to the Dream and a Thompson Hotel confusingly going up on Wilcox—directly around the corner from the similarly-named Tommie.

If you haven’t heard of Tommie Hotels, that’s because the brand doesn’t have any locations just yet. Operated by HIRC partner Two Roads Hospitality, Tommie Hotels promise to be “micro hotels ... born from their surrounding neighborhoods as incubators of ideas, collaboration and exploration,” according to the company website. Guests of the hotels will evidently be able to “customize” their rooms with “posters, flowers, curios and blankets.”

Previously, Five Chairs attempted to develop a Tommie Hotel on Cahuenga, south of Sunset. It’s unclear what the status of that project is at this point, but the developer appears to be proceeding with both a new location and a new design.

Guest amenities at the hotel will include a rooftop pool and lounge, fitness area, event space, conference room, and game zone.

Construction on the project is tentatively scheduled to finish up by 2018.
