Celebrity boutique Fred Segal has signed a long-term lease for its new flagship store in the swanky new hotel and residential building developed by CIM Group on the Sunset Strip at La Cienega in West Hollywood. Fred Segal will occupy a 22,000-square-foot space on the first floor of 8500 Sunset Boulevard, CIM Group said Monday:

In addition to the retail offerings, Fred Segal Sunset will feature a cafe by San Francisco’s Tartine as well as a full lifestyle offering including a fitness studio, salon, wine shop, a florist and an indoor/outdoor restaurant created for Fred Segal by Los Angeles restaurateur Bill Chait. Fred Segal Sunset will also feature the MART at Fred Segal, as it has in its stores in Japan as well as a gifting concierge, bespoke tailoring and other personal services. 8500 Sunset’s outdoor plaza will be utilized by Fred Segal for fashion presentations, performances, red carpet and other events.

The building at 8500 Sunset includes 190 residences in two eight-story towers. CIM is also developing the nearby James West Hollywood, a hotel comprising two 10-story towers with 286 guest rooms. Both projects join about a half-dozen other new, high-end boutique hotels and condo towers that are poised to change the look and vibe of the iconic Sunset Strip.

“Fred Segal’s trademark flair for boutique retail is a strong addition to the vibrant Sunset Strip and sets the standard for the level of quality that we are bringing to 8500 Sunset,” Shaul Kuba, co-founder and principal of CIM Group, said in a statement.

Fred Segal closed its Santa Monica location in March, and a Playa Vista expansion might not take place, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal:

"At the same time, an expansion plan for Fred Segal in Playa Vista has been axed. According to several sources familiar with the company, Fred Segal, owned by New York-based Sandow, in recent months pulled out of a lease for 20,682 square feet at the Runway Playa Vista mixed-use development."

The new Fred Segal on the Sunset Strip is slated to open in the fall of 2017 and will feature the retailer's signature ivy-covered walls and striped awning as well.
