Looks like celebrity tattoo artist and cosmetics maven Kat Von D is taking her punk rock style to buttoned up Hancock Park after. She has purchased a massive 11-bedroom mansion originally built by San Fernando Valley land baron Isaac Newton Van Nuys.
According to real estate search website Trulia, Von D purchased the home for $6.5 million—a good deal under the $8.195 million asking price the home was sporting when it appeared on the market earlier this year. Given the home’s enormous dimensions, that comes out to a downright reasonable $520 per square foot.
The impressive house was featured in the 2003 remake of Cheaper by the Dozen, starring Steve Martin. It features a grand entryway with a striking master staircase. Beamed ceilings and ornately carved wooden moldings can be found throughout the residence. Other extravagant features include an unusual barroom with carved wooden walls and a large mural on the ceiling of the music room/ballrooom.
The home was built in the 1890s, but didn’t make it to the 27,000-square-foot lot it occupies today until 1915, when Van Nuys’s son J. Benton moved it to the newly-established and highly fashionable Hancock Park neighborhood. Now, in addition to the large front yard required of all homes in the area, the mansion includes a pool and meandering back yard with red-brick foot path.
After seeing her gothed-up Spanish-style home in Hollywood, we’re intrigued to see what the LA Ink star does with such an expansive blank canvas.
