A Spanish-style house that's been thoroughly updated

Former Spider-Man Tobey Maguire and soon-to-be ex-wife Jennifer Meyer bought this lovely, reworked Spanish-style house in Santa Monica a little over a year ago, but he’s already trying to offload it, reports Trulia. The house hits the market "on the heels of [the couple’s] divorce announcement."

The 1920s house sits on a spot north of Wilshire in Santa Monica, near the Brentwood border, and has been thoroughly updated by architect Ruben Ojeda, whose changes to the structure included raising the ceilings to a height of 22 feet and adding a second story.

In addition to those high ceilings, the approximately 2,400-square-foot main residence features hardwood floors, transom windows, and a sleeping porch. Behind the main house, there’s a a small, xeriscaped yard, and a two-story, 1,200-square-foot studio space designed by Koning Eizenberg Architecture. A third building on the property has been converted into a gym.

Maguire and his wife purchased the house for $2.675 million in September 2015. It’s now listed for $2.995 million.

Maguire also owns a lot in Brentwood, where it’s been rumored that a Peter Zumthor-designed house would rise.
