Posh Park Hyatt hotel coming to Downtown LA's Oceanwide Plaza mega-development

184 rooms and five stars

Developers of one of South Park’s megaprojects, Oceanwide Plaza, have always maintained they’d bring a tony hotel to their multi-use complex under construction at Flower and 11th streets.

Now we know that hotel will be a Park Hyatt, the company’s "top-tier luxury brand," says the Wall Street Journal.

In addition to a 166,000-square-foot open-air retail area and an approximately 700-foot LED ribbon sign, South Park’s Oceanwide Plaza will hold the five-star Park Hyatt Los Angeles Hotel, with 184 rooms (34 of them suites), and "a sophisticated character," according to an announcement from Oceanwide.

The Hyatt company had been looking for a proper spot in which to drop a Park Hyatt for over a decade, says the Journal. The Oceanwide Plaza location in a booming Downtown sealed the deal.

"A decade ago downtown L.A. probably wouldn’t have fit the bill" for a high-end Park Hyatt, David Tarr, a senior vice president with the company, told the Journal. "Today it absolutely does."

The Park Hyatt within the tri-towered Oceanwide complex will only be the sixth location in the nation for the posh hotel brand. A hotel bearing the brand of fashion designer Roberto Cavalli was previously planned for Oceanwide Plaza.

Oceanwide Plaza is expected to be complete in early 2019. When finished, it will hold a seven-story "retail and amenity podium," 504 condos, and the Park Hyatt.
