Harrison Ford’s son Willard Ford certainly made a wise investment on Chinatown’s Kim Sing Theatre: He bought the property in 2000 for $300,000—and just sold it for $3.3 million. Ford thoroughly overhauled the space on Figueroa north of Cesar Chavez in the 16 years he owned it, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The Kim Sing had most recently been used as a combination event space and live/work residence for Ford himself. The property includes four showrooms (about 9,000 square feet in all), plus a 3,500-square-foot lofted living space with three bedrooms, four bathrooms, an office, and a kitchen.
Opened in 1926 as a vaudeville theater, the Kim Sing Theatre also spent some time as a movie theater. Ford and XTen Architects redid the interiors, making room for "an internal courtyard, an audio-visual room, a large kitchen and retail space." The original bow truss ceilings remained inside, giving the space a bit of industrial cool look.
The new buyers, Silver Lake-based Indra & Co., plan to rent out the storefront and turn the living space into either event space or an Airbnb-style rental.
The Kim Sing Theatre listed two years ago for $4.5 million. It sold for $3.3 million.
