The section of Temple Street that runs through Historic Filipinotown and the southern part of Echo Park has been seeing a steady stream of new developments; with the part of Echo Park that's north of the freeway getting expensive (not to mention a citywide housing crisis), it's no wonder this area's been heating up for apartments, and the trend is still going strong. CORBeL Architects have filed plans with the city to build a six-story, residential and retail complex at 1614-1626 Temple Street according to Urbanize LA.
The $10 million project near the corner of Temple and Glendale Avenue, on the HiFi/Echo Park border, will house 55 apartments, some of which will qualify as affordable housing units. Residents will also be getting a terrace garden and underground parking for 63 cars and 65 bike spots. The ground floor will feature 2,774 square feet of retail space with what looks to be several large storefronts on Temple Street. Also near this intersection is a big residential complex that won't have any retail, so these shops could be a very welcome neighborhood addition.
Construction is slated to begin in March 2016. —Jeff Wattenhofer
