For years and years, plans including a new grocery store and maybe residential units have been floating around the West LA site at Barrington Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard where a sad old Vons once stood, but nothing's really gotten past the talking stages until now. Urbanize LA says that city planning documents have been filed showing the latest plan is to put a 55,430-square-foot, 24-hour grocery store on the lot with 166 apartments on top of that.
Those worried about a traffic snarl near all these new apartments can rest easier: the new mixed-use complex would also include three levels of underground parking with a total of 579 parking spaces. The project's developer is United Oil.
This isn't the neighborhood's only big transformation on the horizon. Just about two blocks west, prolific developer CIM Group is planning their own mixed-use development, with 45,000 square feet of ground-floor retail over 157 apartments and lots of underground parking.
