The Roof is Off at DTLA's Macy's Fortress and it is Glorious

Earlier this month, Curbed toured the Macy's Fortress in the Financial District, which is currently in the middle of its transformation into an airy, open collection of shops, eateries, and office space. A huge symbolic milestone in the project—the removal of the oppressive roof— was slowly underway at The Bloc then. But now, as illustrated by photos from broker/blogger Brigham Yen, there's basically just a skeleton left of the ceiling, and in a few weeks, there won't even be that.

In addition to roof removal, construction crews are working throughout the Macy's compound on the rest of the massive remodel, opening up retail spaces that will front the main plaza of The Bloc, starting to cut away at the concrete for a future connection to the Seventh Street/Metro Center station, and making strides on the fancy, Art-Deco overhaul of the Sheraton Hotel. The whole project is now scheduled to finish in November.
