Director Steven Spielberg and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, have been renting out their oceanfront mansion on celeb-studded Broad Beach for years—in 2013, it was on the market for a jaw-dropping $125,000 a month. More recently, it was seen asking $150,000. A MONTH! As much money as they must have been making off the rental, Variety has good reason to believe that the pair may have parted with their Craftsman-inspired dwelling for around $35 million.
An "as yet unknown buyer" must have been quite taken with the 1.08-acre, double-lot property and the seven-bedroom house that sits on it. Previously, listings had advertised a detached, two-room guesthouse, "bonus space," a pool and spa, and 150 feet of rapidly-disappearing beach frontage. The Spielberg-Capshaws bought the place in two phases—one in 1989, and another in 2000— for a total of $6.57 million (and that's not counting the cost of renovations on the house). That rumored sale price again is around $35 million. The family has two large properties nearby in Pacific Palisades, including their full-time residence.
