What $1,900 Rents You in Los Angeles Right Now

New, 6 comments

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,900.

↑ The kitchen floor in this Fairfax two-bedroom is waiting for some lucky tenant to pretend that it's the light-up floor from the "Billie Jean" video. After that dance workout, cool off with one of the unit's exactly three ceiling fans. (They counted.) Other awesome amenities include gated parking, on-site laundry, and a walk-in closet. Located about two blocks away from The Grove, this pet-unfriendly unit rents for $1,995.

↑ The listing for this West Adams apartment doesn't say anything about parking but three bedrooms?! Even if there's just two of you, that spare room is an opportunity to finally stop paying for a storage locker offsite or have a home office that isn't smack dab in the middle of the communal space. There's also a single bathroom, a shared front yard, and in-unit laundry, but a fridge seems suspiciously absent from photos. The rent is $1,900.

↑ This 1915 Craftsman in East LA is a petite 900 square feet but has two bedrooms and a large, flat yard that could use either a little TLC or the camouflage of about 60 people over for a party. The kitchen isn't totally hipstered out, and comes with a fridge and stove. There's also, blessedly, laundry on-site, with new machines! The house isn't too far from El Mercadito, a marketplace/restaurant where the mariachis will duel expertly and energetically as you absentmindedly eat your weight in chips and salsa. Rent is $1,950.

↑ This compact, 783-square-foot apartment in Arlington Heights has two bedrooms, dark hardwoods floors, and new counters and cabinets in the kitchen. The unit has two entrances, front and back, and one uncovered parking spot behind the complex. There are hook-ups for laundry in the apartment, but machines are not included. Rent is $1,850.

↑ On Los Feliz Boulevard just west of Riverside Drive, this "Semi luxury large deluxe" one-bedroom unit offers a new bathroom, hardwood floors, a dishwasher and a fridge, and a little porch with a washer and dryer. There's even parking for a compact car. Rent is $1,800.
