The big mixed-use complex proposed for a less bustling section of Silver Lake Boulevard near Bellevue Avenue in southern Silver Lake is moving forward, with reps from developers CIM Group coming to talk to locals tonight about the project. Though designs aren't finalized yet, expect a mix of four- and five-story buildings—tall for the 'hood—grouped around courtyards, with a main courtyard along Bellevue. says the Eastsider LA. What's not to like?
Of the 136 planned units, 15 percent would be reserved for very low-income renters. The complex would also provide 236 parking spaces, presumably to accommodate not just residents, but also shoppers visiting the 12,000 square feet of retail space in the new project. All those new shops will make a big impact on the immediate neighborhood—right now, the property is home to Phil's Transfer & Storage and a small market—and ELA says that most of the attendees at a community meeting back in March seemed excited about more shops on the block.
CIM Group has recently had some high-profile drama exploding at its Sunset/Gordon property, where a lawsuit claims it illegally demolished the exterior of the Old Spaghetti Factory—a feature it had agreed to preserve. Repercussions of the lawsuit have led to a prolonged back-and-forth about whether or not tenants can even stay in the building.
