What $1,800 Rents You in Los Angeles Right Now

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,800.

↑ Separated from Echo Park Lake by only a busy intersection and the 101 Freeway, this lofted studio apartment in Historic Filipinotown boasts some attractive amenities: one gated parking spot, wood floors, air conditioning, a walk-in closet, on-site laundry, and a recently redone bathroom. The upper-level unit also has a dishwasher and, of course, high ceilings. Rent is $1,800.

↑ This remodeled Palms one-bedroom looks fresh as a daisy with that nice wood flooring, subway tiles in the kitchen, and spiffy paint job. The bright first-floor unit has all new stainless steel appliances and granite counters in the kitchen (including a dishwasher); recessed lighting and new carpet are in place throughout the house. The cat-friendly complex has on-site laundry, gated parking, and a pool. Rent is $1,895.

↑ In hilly, quiet, far-eastern Echo Park (technically Victor Heights), this "Renovated, clean, and no-nonsense" two-bedroom awaits. The second-floor unit has new wood floors, counters, appliances, counters, and cabinets. One covered parking spot is also part of the deal, and on-site laundry is available. The apartment does have that wall-mounted air conditioning (and in the living room, where no one sleeps) and is also BYOF (Bring Your Own Fridge), but who knows, maybe it's workable. Rent is $1,700.

↑ Just a few blocks away from the Gold Line's Southwest Museum Station (and even closer to the tracks), this Mt. Washington one-bedroom in a little court of standalone bungalows is a lot roomier looking than its 580 square feet. Recently updated, the bathroom's got a new tub, there's a new stove and microwave in the kitchen, and the unit has its own washer and dryer. There's a one-car garage for a small car or for storage too. Rent is $1,850.

↑ This one-bedroom, first-floor apartment just south of the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood is light on details in the description, but lets its photos do the talking. The apartment has wood floors in the living room, ceiling fans throughout, and a U-shaped kitchen with what looks like a fair amount of storage space. There's a small balcony off the bedroom and his-and-hers sinks in the bathroom. There's no talk of the parking situation in the listing, but then there's pretty much no talk of anything except the complex's pool. Rent is $1,795.
