Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,750.
↑ The search for a pet-friendly, hardwood-floored one-bedroom with an attractive, curved living room has ended with this East Hollywood apartment. Look at that built-in bookcase! The kitchen, while on the smaller side, is definitely roomy enough to be serviceable. The bathroom is spacious and features a separate shower enclosure. Parking is available "w/restrictions," but it is available, which is always nice. Rent is $1,675.
↑ This one-bedroom in Mid-Wilshire doesn't have parking, but it does have a cavernous living room. (Probably not large enough to be a parking alternative, though.) The wood floors have been recently refinished and those ceiling fans are new, too. The apartment also features a long, narrow, galley-style kitchen with room for seating and lots of storage space. Rent is $1,650.
↑ They don't appear in the photos, but this vintage Pasadena one-bedroom claims to have in-unit laundry, which is a true luxury in an apartment. The ground-level unit has a (maybe functional?) fireplace, a front and back porch, air conditioning, and parking. Rent is $1,750.
↑ Don't get too attached to the spirited paint job in this Sawtelle one-bedroom; it's apparently getting repainted, probably white in every room. But the colors aren't its only selling point. The long, lean kitchen has cute yellow tile and a new stove (maybe just ignore the wires hanging off the opposite wall), storage space in the hallway, on-site laundry, and one parking spot. Rent is $1,695.
↑ A little staging never hurt anyone. In fact, it makes this Pico-Robertson one-bedroom look downright tantalizing. The first-floor apartment has a big living room, a dining area, and a kitchen with granite counters and tile floors. The rest of the unit has wood floors. There's on-site laundry and parking, too. Rent is $1,650.
