Megaproject Metropolis's Condo Pricing, Renderings Revealed

New, 46 comments

Even though it's still being built, developers of South Park's skyline-altering megaproject Metropolis (one of a few in the neighborhood) have already seen incredible demand for the condos in the complex's 38-story tower. Now, as its projected completion date nears, more details and renderings of that condo tower are emerging: in a release, reps for developers Greenland now confirm that the high-rise will have studios, as well as one- and two-bedroom apartments, and that they will be very affordable. Just kidding! Prices for the studios begin at around $600,000, but will climb to over $2 million for penthouse units.

There's a lot of room between $600k and $2 million, and the website for Douglas Elliman, which is handling sales at Metropolis, has a few units listed to give prospective buyers a better idea of what options lie within that range. At the lower end of the price spectrum, a studio that appears to be on the fifteenth floor is asking $580,000 for 526 square feet; closer to the top, a two-bedroom unit on the thirty-fourth floor is asking about $1.94 million for 1,720 square feet.

All these new residences will be in what's called Tower I, which sits on a 66-foot podium and is surrounded by a huge park that will include "an abundance of trees, walkways, and serene reflecting pools and fire pits," according to a release. The condo tower and an 18-story hotel comprise phase one of the project, which is expected to be finished sometime in 2016. Phase two is a 40-story tower with hundreds more condos, expected to open in late 2017.
