USC officially began work in September on its USC Village, a huge, 15-acre undertaking that will bring five-story residence halls for 2,700 students, a grocery store, an exercise center, a "mobility hub" with public transit information, and tons of other retail (including a Trader Joe's) just north of the campus, taking out the present University Village shopping center. Today, via a dramatically-scored aerial video, we see they're well into the hole-digging phase, and have made a lot of progress on the beginnings of the project. The enormous footprint of the Village is scaled really well by the overhead view, giving viewers a better sense of just how large the finished, "Collegiate Gothic" product will be when it's complete, sometime in 2017.
