What $1,800 a Month Rents You in Los Angeles Right Now

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,800.

↑ You had us at built-in bookshelf, Koreatown two-bedroom. Those protruding decorative steps in the doorway between the living room and the dining room aren't hurting, either. The smaller building (only eight units) has controlled entry, and offers secure parking behind the complex for $100 a month, a price that's both pretty standard and pretty outrageous. The unit has one full bathroom, refinished hardwood floors, and hook-ups for a washer/dryer. The rent is $1,795.

↑ As far as adorable one-bedrooms in courtyard complexes go, this one is pretty far up there. This Fairfax apartment is just 700 square feet, but packed with built-ins like the little vanity nook and the cupboards and the kitchen table, all of which look like they could well be original to the 1920s apartment. The description is sparse, but from the looks of things, the heating and cooling is not central, and the fireplace is not functional. The closet is fairly large and there aren't any pets allowed. The rent is $1,750.

↑ What this Van Nuys apartment lacks in vintage charm, it makes up for with space. Lots of it. There's an upstairs! The pet-friendly, two-bedroom apartment has two-and-a-half bathrooms, two gated parking spaces, washer/dryer hookups, central air, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms, and a dishwasher. Rent is $1,750.

↑ Located a single block away from the sands of Venice Beach, this 525-square-foot one-bedroom comes with the perks of on-site laundry and communal bike storage. The building has that old Venice, kind of funky look to it, but maybe that's just the powder blue paint job. The unit itself has a modest, L-shaped kitchen and stairs down into the bedroom off the kitchen. Rent is $1,895.

↑ This first-floor, two-bedroom condo in Glendale has a pool, air conditioning, and on-site laundry, and includes all appliances. The kitchen has granite countertops, and the closets have a very organized layout. The listing is mum about parking, though. Rent is $1,895.
