Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,900.

↑ Live upstairs in this Hollywood looker on Van Ness near Melrose and enjoy refinished hardwood floors, a dishwasher in the kitchen, and entrances at the front and back of the one-bedroom apartment. The 650-square-foot unit comes furnished and has on-site laundry. There's no parking provided, though there is "Unrestricted overnight street parking available." Rent is $1,975. (Unfurnished, it's $1,775.)

↑ This West LA one-bedroom apartment, just off Westwood and Wilshire Boulevards, has hardwood floors, lots of windows in the front room, and a nice kitchen area with the requisite granite counters. The 800-square-foot unit is located on the first floor of the building and has an ample bedroom with a decent-sized closet, one bathroom, on-site laundry, and a cat-tolerant policy. Rent is $2,000.

↑ Just south of Colorado Boulevard and a short walk to the fun of Old Town Pasadena, this studio apartment in a new building has 462 square feet of space, plus its own little landscaped patio, a washer and dryer, and one reserved parking space. Rent is $1,995.

↑ This listing is advertising all four two-bedroom, two-bathroom units in a newly-built complex in Glassell Park, because who's really got the time to write up four listings? Within each of the 1,000-square-foot units there are new stainless steel appliances (fridge and dishwasher), central air conditioning, laminate floors, and recessed lighting, and each bedroom has an en suite bathroom. There are also two tandem parking spaces per unit. Rent for each is $1,950.

↑ There's a pretty cool patio attached to this two-bedroom in Valley Village. The apartment, newly remodeled, has new laminate wood floors and sliding doors that lead out to that patio, plus new counters and cabinets in the kitchen. There is only wall-mounted air conditioning and heat, but at least those are new too. Rent here is $1,950.
