What $1,500 a Month Rents You in Los Angeles Right Now

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,500.

↑ Located behind a nondescript retail storefront on the second floor, this studio apartment in the Cahuenga Pass, not far from Universal Studios, faces away from the street and doesn't look like much from outside. Inside, though, the 450-square-foot space is sparkling, with what look like coved ceilings in the main room and some cool, possibly original tile in the kitchen. (There's pink and teal tile in the bathroom.) The stove, fridge, and one parking space are included, as is use of the large, improvised patio. Rent is $1,495.

↑ The one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit in this charming little Traditional apartment complex on a cul de sac in Westlake is dreamy, with wood floors; big, paned windows up front; and "1950's, vintage stainless steel kitchen cabinetry." Rent is $1,495.

↑ This one-bedroom apartment alongside the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks comes with a lot of nice amenities: central air conditioning and heat, a dishwasher, a balcony, a gas fireplace, and a gated parking space. The building has a swimming pool and on-site laundry, too. The rent is $1,595.

↑ Ok, so this Historic Filipinotown studio doesn't look so roomy, but it's not all bad: there's a dishwasher (all kitchen appliances are included), a private patio, a parking space, and two big closets where you can cram all the stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else in the apartment. Rent is $1,500.

↑ Inside a peach-colored building in Hollywood, this one-bedroom apartments awaits. The 700-square-foot unit has hardwood floors, a remodeled bathroom, a fridge, a dining area, on-site laundry facilities, and a parking space. The bedroom is loft-style, at the top of the stairs, affording a great opportunity to make some really awesome entrances at your own parties when you host them here. Rent is $1,575.
