Hollywood Christmas Parade 2015: Route, Street Closures, How to Get There

This Sunday, with Thanksgiving turkey in Ziplocs still crowding your fridge, Christmas will be fully on in Hollywood, courtesy of the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade—a tradition for more than 80 years. The parade starts at 5 pm right by the Chinese Theatre and heads down Hollywood Boulevard, turns south on Vine, and then doubles back on Sunset Bouelvard. This year's Grand Marshals, hilarious magicians Penn & Teller, will march the route, along with lots of big inflatable cartoon character balloons and musical acts and marching bands. Sounds like a lot of fun, but it's definitely going to have an impact on getting around in Hollywood this weekend. Here's your guide to closures and more:

The parade route:

Even though the parade only travels a few blocks, there are a lot of streets affected, and even a couple freeway offramps. On the day of the parade, the northbound and southbound Cahuenga Boulevard offramps on the 101 Freeway will be closed from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm. According to a release from LADOT, street closures for the event are plentiful, and start as early as Saturday, November 28 in some areas:

With all these closures, it's no surprise at all that the organizers and LADOT are suggesting that people try to take the Metro Red Line to the parade. (Buses will be subject to detours like the rest of the cars, The Source reminds.)

LADOT has warned it's going to be "strictly enforcing" the no parking signs and restrictions around the parade, so if your car gets towed, it should be at Hollywood Tow (the official police parking garage) at 1015 N. Mansfield Avenue in Hollywood. Conveniently, car owners can check the police garage website to make sure their car's at the lot.
