New, 12 comments

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,450.

↑ If your new apartment is going to have carpet, the best that can be hoped for is new carpet, and that's just what this one-bedroom in Sherman Oaks has. The cat-friendly, lower-level unit also has a dishwasher, central air conditioning and heating, lots of storage space, and a balcony. The complex has a swimming pool and a barbecue area, and the apartment comes with one reserved, covered parking spot. Rent is $1,450.

↑ A studio right on Hillhurst? What luck! This wee unit over retail in Los Feliz holds a walk-in closet, hardwood floors, and a stove and fridge that come with the unit. There's probably no parking provided, but there is on-site laundry. Rent is $1,375.

↑ Located just a couple blocks away from the Hollywood/Western subway station, this upper-level East Hollywood one-bedroom offers new stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, a dishwasher, and granite kitchen counters. The photos are all of a "very similar" unit, but if it's anything like this place, it's bright and roomy (narrow kitchen being the only exception). Reserved parking is part of the package, and rent is $1,525.

↑ This 300-square-foot studio in Sawtelle is advertised as a "bachelor pad," but could be for fans of "domestic purging" expert Marie Kondo or anyone looking to live light. The apartment has a two-burner stove, a sink, and a mini-fridge that come with the unit. There also appears to be a good-sized closet in the room too. There is on-site laundry in the complex but no parking. Rent is $1,395.

↑ The one-bedroom unit up for grabs in this little bungalow court in Historic Filipinotown has its own front and back entrances, wood floors, antique fixtures, curved ceilings, and comes with its own fridge and stove. Parking is available but only for an added fee. Don't worry: "The neighborhood is vegan-friendly." Rent is $1,450.
